How to choose and use a forestry crane for your tractor
Before buying, check the power, hitch and hydraulics of your tractor.
1. What it is for
The forestry crane loads and unloads logs, firewood, posts and battens effortlessly, for example from the woodland to the trailer or from the trailer to the pile. It is designed for small farming and forestry businesses and for anyone preparing their own firewood.
2. Capacity and reach
The telescopic boom is 3 m long with a reach of 2.7 m; the crane lifts up to 250 kg and loads up to 3.3 m high. The boom slews through 270° and the grapple, with its rotator, turns to position the log.
3. Tractor and hydraulics
You need a tractor of at least 30 hp with a category 1 three-point hitch and hydraulics delivering 30–40 l/min at 90–150 bar. The control valve with flow-regulating and locking valves gives precise, controlled movements.
4. Stability and safety
The stabilisers spread from 1.2 to 2.4 m: always open them on firm ground before lifting. Never stand within the crane's working range, do not exceed the capacity and work with the tractor stationary and the brake applied.

What tractor does the forestry crane need?
A wheeled or tracked farm tractor of at least 30 hp, with a category 1 three-point hitch and hydraulics delivering 30–40 l/min. Also check that the lift can carry the 390 kg weight of the crane.
Is the grapple included?
Yes, the crane comes complete with log grapple and hydraulic rotator, ready to work.
What logs can I lift with 250 kg?
It depends on species and moisture: a fresh log 25 cm in diameter and 4 m long weighs about 150–200 kg. Cut heavier logs shorter before loading them.
Is it easy to remove from the tractor?
Yes, it fits and comes off the three-point hitch quickly, so the tractor stays free for other jobs.
