How to choose the right lifting and transport equipment for your tractor
The choice depends on what you need to move, the weight of the load and your tractor's hitch.
1. What you need to move
For pallets you need a pallet fork, for hay bales a bale spear. For soil, gravel, snow and debris there is the tipping bucket; for goods, firewood, tools and manure the transport box with sides; for bulkier loads, including on the road, the tipping farm trailer; and for lifting suspended loads such as sacks or small logs, the hydraulic crane jib.
2. Capacity and power
Pallet forks and bale spears lift 300 to 800 kg, buckets 400 kg, transport boxes 500 to 700 kg and crane jibs up to 200 kg. Check that the tractor's lift can carry the weight of the implement plus the load, and use front ballast with heavier loads.
3. Hitch
Almost all the equipment connects to the three-point hitch: category 1 on the lighter models and category 1 and 2 on the sturdier ones. One pallet fork has a Euro attachment for the front loader instead, and the trailer connects to the tractor's tow hitch. Check the distance between the lower lift arms on the product page.
4. Manual or hydraulic tipping
Buckets and transport boxes can be emptied in two ways: with a manual release lever, which is simple and needs no hydraulic connections, or with hydraulic tipping operated from the driving seat through a tractor hydraulic outlet. The three-way trailer tips hydraulically to the rear and to both sides.
5. Safety
Never stand under a raised load, carry loads low and respect the stated capacity. Always lower the implement to the ground before getting off the tractor.
| Type | Use | Capacity | Tractor power | Connection |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pallet fork | Pallets | 300–700 kg | 12–90 hp | Three-point hitch or front loader (Euro attachment) |
| Bale spear | Round or square hay bales | 600–800 kg | 12–90 hp | Three-point hitch cat. 1-2 |
| Tipping bucket | Soil, gravel, snow, debris | 400 kg | 14–40 hp | Three-point hitch cat. 1 |
| Tipping transport box | Goods, firewood, manure, tools | 500–700 kg | 20–90 hp | Three-point hitch cat. 1-2 |
| Three-way tipping trailer | Firewood, sand, crops, including on the road | — | compact and medium-power tractors | Tow hitch, road approved |
| Hydraulic crane jib | Suspended loads, sacks, small logs | up to 200 kg | 30–70 hp | Three-point hitch cat. 1-2 |
Is this equipment suitable for my tractor?
Yes, if the farm tractor has the power stated for the chosen model, from 12 up to 90 hp, and the three-point hitch of the required category, or a front loader with Euro attachment for the dedicated fork. The data for each model are on the product page.
What lifting capacity does the tractor need?
It must lift the weight of the implement plus the load. Check the lift capacity in the tractor manual and use front ballast with heavier loads to keep the tractor stable.
Three-point or front loader pallet fork?
The three-point fork mounts at the rear of the tractor and is the simplest solution if you have no front loader. The Euro attachment fork fits the front loader and lets you lift pallets higher with better visibility.
Bucket or transport box: which should I choose?
The bucket is ideal for loading loose material such as soil, gravel or snow from the ground and tipping it where needed. The transport box, with its sides, is designed to carry goods, firewood, tools or manure without them falling off on the way.
Transport box or farm trailer?
The transport box mounts on the three-point hitch and is handy for short trips on the farm and loads up to 700 kg. The trailer connects to the tow hitch, carries bulkier loads and is approved for road use.
Manual or hydraulic tipping?
Manual tipping is operated with a release lever and needs no hydraulic connections. Hydraulic tipping is controlled from the driving seat through the tractor's hydraulic outlet and is more convenient if you unload often.
Can hay bales be carried?
Yes, with bale spears, which lift round or square bales of 600 to 800 kg depending on the model. On some models the spears fold away for safer transport when not in use.
What is the hydraulic crane jib for?
It lifts and moves suspended loads such as sacks, equipment or small logs, using the tractor's lift and an extendable arm. It is useful for loading material onto trailers or into hard-to-reach places.
Can they be used with tracked or orchard tractors?
Many models are also compatible with tracked, articulated and orchard tractors, as long as they have the three-point hitch of the required category. Check compatibility on the product page.
